Ash

	General Description Color - The heartwood varies from light to dark brown while the sapwood is light colored to nearly white. Grain - Has generally a straight, moderately open grain. (unfinished Ash pictured to the right)
	Available Grades 1st Grade (Clear) - The face is practically free of all defects. Average length of packaging is 3-3/4'. Select & Better - The face contains mostly sapwood. May have narrow streaks and brown heartwood as well as other minor imperfections. Most defects will disappear after the floor is laid and finished. Average length of packaging is 3-1/4'. 2nd Grade - Has wood characteristics such as heavy streaks, stained sapwood, sound knots and other imperfections. Average length of package is 2-3/4'.

	Properties Hardness - Similar to that of Hickory, which is roughly 2% harder than Red Oak. It is also more stable than Red Oak. See Relative Hardness Comparison Graph Durability - Excellent overall strength properties. Hard and shock resistant. Good resistance to splitting. One of its uses is for major league baseball bats.
